The Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer at Advannor, you will be a key contributor to the virtualisation and software infrastructure layer that underpins the operation of complex industrial environments, including onshore and offshore wind farms. You will work hands-on with VMware vSphere environments, support critical OT systems, and play an active role in evaluating and implementing hypervisor alternatives as part of our ongoing platform evolution.
Responsibilities
-
Manage, maintain, and optimise VMware vSphere environments (v8/v9) across IT and OT infrastructure.
-
Plan and execute environment upgrades and migrations, ensuring continuity and reliability in production.
-
Assess and evaluate viable hypervisor alternatives to VMware (e.g. Proxmox, Hyper-V, Nutanix) and provide technical recommendations.
-
Manage virtualisation in complex offshore environments, including virtual disk configuration, failover, and high availability (HA) setups.
-
Support infrastructure for SCADA systems and Industrial PCs (IPCs) within OT environments.
-
Apply infrastructure-as-code principles using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or PowerShell/PowerCLI to automate and standardise infrastructure management.
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure infrastructure solutions meet both IT and OT requirements.
-
Contribute to technical documentation and ensure infrastructure knowledge is properly captured and maintained.
Qualifications
Required
-
Minimum 3 years of experience in infrastructure or systems engineering.
-
Solid hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, including ESXi and vCenter.
-
Proven experience in infrastructure migrations and environment upgrades in production settings.
-
Strong understanding of Windows and Linux server environments.
-
Experience with high availability, failover, and disaster recovery configurations.
-
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
-
Excellent command of English, both spoken and written, in a multicultural working environment.
Nice to Have
-
Knowledge of at least one VMware alternative hypervisor (Proxmox, Hyper-V, Nutanix, or similar).
-
Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or PowerShell/PowerCLI.
-
Understanding of networking fundamentals in virtualised environments.
-
Familiarity with OT/industrial environments or critical infrastructure (SCADA, ICS, wind energy, utilities).
-
Experience working with Industrial PCs (IPCs) or edge computing in constrained environments.
-
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles applicable to OT environments.
Competencies
To be successful in this role, we expect that you:
-
Are comfortable navigating complex technical environments and can balance IT rigour with OT constraints.
-
Take ownership of your work and follow through with reliability and accountability.
-
Can communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Are curious, proactive, and stay current with developments in infrastructure and virtualisation technologies.
-
Thrive in a collaborative team and are generous with your knowledge.
